Decisions, decisions! To go to a mainstream gym or to finally pluck up the courage and seek the guidance of a personal trainer? What to do?
In this blog we point out 10 of what we think are the most valuable things anyone can receive from personal training instead of going it alone in (to some) the scary world of fitness.
1. Passed on experience
Choose a personal trainer with a background of success on other clients and even themselves and you in turn can inherit the knowledge gained. If someone’s walked the walked surely that’s better than listening to your mate down the pub who thinks they know it all.
2. Accountability
Often bypassed the gym because no one will ever know you’ve skipped training? or just not in the mood? Your personal trainer will be there to get you going when you need it the most. It’s harder to throw in the towel when you know someone is watching and expects you to give it your best.
3. Uncertainty
Watch carefully in a gym and you’ll probably notice people walking around aimlessly because they have no idea if what they are doing is right for the goal they want. A personal trainer eliminates all doubt. Follow their lead and you won’t go wrong.
4. Network
You’d be surprised how much encouragement you’ll get from other clients. We call this the personal trainer’s network. You’re all working hard on your own goals but everyone gets a great buzz from seeing fellow clients succeed.
5. Privacy
This point is only really relevant if the personal trainer is in a private facility or possibly trains at homes. We hear a lot about how people feel intimidated in gym environments and we at Definition Body Coaching in York pride ourselves on having a space for just those who work with us. No peeping eyes from a full gym.
6. Support
We all go through tough times and wobbles. Sometimes we just need someone there to keep us on track and encourage to not give up. With a personal trainer you’re never alone. If they didn’t believe in you they wouldn’t make you do it.
7. Time efficient
Time is one of the most valuable things we have and can never get back. Don’t waste time on a plan that should take 30 minutes but is now knocking closer to 2 hours. Personal trainers are there to make sure you hit the right movements in the right workout duration. Never again will you be talking to your best buddies on the phone when you should be hitting a core movement.
8. Goal setting
Goals can change as progress proceeds. Your personal trainer will help you set the next goal up for you so you keep the momentum flowing with results. These goals should also be realistic and achievable.
9. Self-belief
I can’t do it! The famous words heard by every personal trainer in the world. Your trainer will make you believe you can do it and accomplish things you never thought possible. Until you have self-belief though, everything may just seem too overwhelming.
10. Personal
The final but the most valid point. It’s all personal to you. In gyms everyone is left to their own thing. With confusion setting in and thoughts running around your brain saying “ am I doing the right movements” and “what should I even be working on to hit my goal” all you can go off is presumption. With a personal trainer the movements, formats, nutrition and more is all relevant to you. There may even be equipment in a gym which shouldn’t even be used by you for your goal. But until you seek the relevant advice, how do you know?
Personal training by professional coaches has shown it’s worth all over the world. Our studio in York over the past few years has not only impacted lives but changed them. If you’re reading this and you’re desperate to make a change to your life then we urge you to seek advice from a reputable personal trainer. Gyms accommodate equipment but it’s the trainers who impact and change those in it.
